General Aire 990-53 Solenoid Valve Assembly 24V
List Price: $80.23 Sale Price: $66.86
This is a 24 volt, AC electrically-operated valve that turns the water on and off to your humidifier. Preinstalled inside of the valve is a strainer screen, which filters the water before it passes through the valve, catching things like sand and dirt which could otherwise cause blockage. This valve needs to be replaced about every ten years, or more often if it fails and is stuck open or closed. Fits models 1040L, 1040LH, 709L, 709LH, 1040, 1042L, 1042LH, 1137, 1042DM, 1042DME.
(Note: This valve operates on 24 volts, however some units are equipped with a 115 volt solenoid valve. Look closely at your old one to see what voltage it is rated at before ordering this valve. This item can be mounted on the left OR right side of the humidifier.)
Don't pay attention to the version, orifice size, part number or wattage printed on your old valve. The production of this item has been changed regularly so what is important is the voltage and your unit model number.
This component is also known as part number: 7014 and 990-46
The manufacturer is sometimes referred to as General Filters, General Air but is correctly spelled GeneralAire®.

"General Aire 990-53 Solenoid Valve Assembly 24V" by Mark Fryml (St. Lambert Qu CA)
The selenoid valve works perfectly well. I am very pleased with it. Your explanation on your website notifying clients to make sure you order the correct replacement (24V) was very important since I would have ordered the wrong one. Very pleased with your service! Thank you!
humidifer repair by Bob Reese (Pleasant Valley Mi US)
we moved into a new for us home built in the 70's it had an old genair humdififer. the owner listed it as an exception saying "it hasn't worked in years, of course not. The damper control knob was broken off because of a mis alignment in the flu, the valve was totally clogged and the filter was gross. after replacing all these parts the unit worked fine.If you are repairing your humidifier keep in mind after it is turned on it takes several days before you notice the humdity go up do to the volume of the house. Thanks genaire repair was simple even for this old unit.

Water Solenoid valve by Dickie Wilson (Dayton OH US)
This item is the heart of the furnace humidifier. With just 2 open end wrenches the solenoid valve was very simple to install. There is almost no way to install it "wrong". Doing it myself saved a repair trip which would have probably cost me double for the valve plus the service trip. If this valve gives me several years of service, I'll be a happy camper!

Just what I needed by Steve L (Omaha NE US)
We have hard water so every a number of years items tend to get hard water built up. So we needed to replace the solenoid assembly on the humidification unit. Got the part, it was fairly easy to replace, installed and away it went working as intended. Saved a lot of time and money.

All OK by Jimbo ( CA)
My only complaint was that shipping to Canada added ~$30 extra to the cost (order the Evaporator Pad and a Solenoid Valve) from import duty (Customs). While the parts were promised to be delivered in a, I believe 3-5 days, it took about 10 days because of the holdup with paying customs. Installing the part was straightforward. One thing I would have liked to have seen on your "Trouble Shooting" guide was to check the filter that is at the inlet to the solenoid. While mine was not plugged, it might have been and a simple cleaning would have solved the problem without having to buy a whole new valve.

General Aire 990-53 Solenoid Valve Assembly 24V" by K.Derrick (Strongsville OH )
First of all, I am delighted by the service I got. It was impossible to determine the equipment model number without removing the equipment from the duct work (serious design flaw). I ended up taking detailed pics and emailing them to the service rep. Got the model number and a few days later received the valve. Excellent. Secondly- This review form is clumsy. "Title" ? What is expected to be entered there? I simply copied the text above the "Title" box that reads: " Enter your rating and review for "General Aire 990-53 Solenoid Valve Assembly 24V" ". Also "Rating" I'm guessing '5 stars' is the best.
General Aire 990-53 24V Solenoid Valve by Bob Dombek (Cincinnati Oh US)
My original valve lasted almost 15 years. The new valve was shipped fast and is easy to install for anyone with just a little experience with a pair of wrenches. Had to reverse the mounting bracket which was easy. Be sure to use a 2 wrench technique on the compression fittings. With the new valve and a fresh pad, my humidifier works like new!

Alls well that ends well by Dan Janzen (Calgary Al CA)
I can buy the whole unit at a few places in Calgary but none of them sell parts. Images on website very helpful, had to make order by image as not all the numbers matched. Phoned in talked to a tech to confirm correct part and was informed some of the numbers on the part and image do not matter, if that info was on the website would have saved some concern and a phone call. Tech very knowledgeable and helpful. Order process was easy, part arrived quickly. Minor issue, UPS charged $34.00 brokerage fee to ship into Canada.

Instructions? by David Main (Greeley CO US)
This product was as described and needed. It is great that the part worked as intended. In the future, I would like to see a set of instructions on how to install it. While this piece was simple and self explanatory, I'm not sure the entire unit is that simple.
Repair to General Aire Humidifier by C. Stukins (Englewood OH US)
The solenoid valve on my General Aire Humidifier finally failed after multiple years of use. I was able to find the General Aire website easily and utilized their online order process to order several components to rebuild the unit. The part arrived within 7 days as promised. All the components were correct and the re-installation went without any trouble and the unit is now working as expected. The only item I overlooked was the drain tube. After the many years of use the drain tube clogged from rust which caused an overflow from the humidifier that lead to the diagnosis of a failed solenoid. I would not hesitate to order additional components from General Aire if I have any additional issues, and I don't expect any! Although I will have to order a new drain tube!
really helpful!!! by (Wichita KS )
